CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ATHLETES

Athletes will:-
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of other athletes and coaches and treat everyone equally, regardless of background or ability
  • Not swear
  • Take responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
  • Inform their coach before training if the have an injury or are feeling unwell
  • Always be aware of other athletes on or around the track with a view to minimising accidents
  • Always follow the rules of fair play and never violate rules or use prohibited or age-inappropriate substances.
  • Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance and show respect towards other athletes and officials
  • Keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late.
  • Pay any fees for training or events promptly.
  • Wear suitable kit for training and match sessions, as agreed with the coach/team manager.

Athletes must not switch coaches within the Club without the consent of their existing coach


 

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR COACHES

Coaches will:-
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every athlete and treat everyone equally, regardless of background or ability
  • Place the welfare and safety of the athlete above the development of performance.
  • Develop appropriate working relationships with athletes (especially under 18’s), based on mutual trust and respect. They will not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.
  • Encourage and guide athletes to accept and take responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
  • Be appropriately qualified and update their licence as and when required by UK Athletics.
  • Ensure that the activities they guide or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of the individual.
  • At the outset, clarify with athletes (and where appropriate their parents or carers) exactly what is expected of them and what athletes are entitled to expect from the coach.
  • Co-operate fully with other colleagues (e.g. other coaches, officials, team managers, sport scientists, doctors, physiotherapists and governing body staff) in the best interests of the athlete.
  • Consistently promote positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone rule violations or the use of prohibited or age-inappropriate substances.
  • Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.
  • Not smoke in the vicinity of athletes
  • Assist in the selection of teams.
  • Travel to competitions with the junior team(s)

 

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS & CARERS

Parents & Carers will:-

  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every athlete and coach and treat everyone equally, regardless of background or ability.
  • Make every attempt to deliver athletes in time for the start of training sessions and meetings
  • Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results
  • Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performances of all
  • Support your childs involvement and help them to enjoy their sport
  • Never force your child to take part in sport nor punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes
  • Encourage and guide athletes to accept and take responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
  • Not smoke in the vicinity of athletes.
  • Consistently promote positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone rule violations or the use of prohibited or age-inappropriate substances.
  • Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.
  • Not coach their child or any other athlete whilst at the track without the permission of a Club coach

 

Track Etiquette for all

  • Only athletes should be using the track during training sessions
  • If non athletes wish to keep fit by walking around the track please use the concrete path on either the inside or the outside of the track
  • If using these areas please be aware that field events maybe taking place as well
  • All athletes should be aware that the track can be a very dangerous place and hence when not running on the track, please be aware that others will be, and their run should not be obstructed

 

Constitution

The Constitution, Rules and Regulation confirmed by the Annual General Meeting in November 1977 and revised in July 2003 at Cleavelys Track. (Amended in March 2006)

    1. That the Club be known as Salford Metropolitan Athletic Club.
    2. That the object of the Club be the further development of cross country and track and field athletics.
    3. That the Annual General Meeting be held annually each year for the purpose of electing Officers and to receive the Reports and Accounts, the latter having been previously passed by the Auditor and to transact other business for the ensuing year.
    4. That the Officers of the Club consist of:
      • President
      • Chairperson
      • Honorary Treasurer
      • Honorary Secretary
      • Membership Secretary
          • A committee of up to ten members, seven of whom shall form a quorum.
        1. That only first claim members be eligible for election to the committee.
        2. That all nominations for Officers and all proposed amendments to the Rules must be sent to the Honorary Secretary, in writing, not later than 14 (fourteen) days before the Annual General Meeting.
        3. That no rule be made, amended or rescinded except at the Annual General Meeting.
        4. That no member be allowed to vote at any General Meeting whose subscription is in arrears or who is under 13 years of age on the day of the Annual General Meeting.
        5. That the Committee shall have the power to fill any vacancy occurring amongst the Officers of the Club during the current year.
        6. That any member of the Committee absenting his/herself from three consecutive meetings, shall render his/herself liable to be removed from the Committee unless a satisfactory explanation of their inability to present is tendered to the Honorary Secretary.
        7. That the annual subscription be paid every 12 months from the 1st April. The amount shall be determined at the Annual General Meeting and includes the insurance premium and Northern Counties membership at the current rate.
        8. That the Committee shall have the power to expel any member whose subscription is six months in arrears, providing that a month’s notice in writing shall have been sent to such member by recorded letter addressed to his/her last known address informing him/her of the proposed action of the Committee. The name and address of any such person so expelled from the Club shall be sent to the Honorary Secretary of the NoEAA and shall be entered in a book called "the Suspended Membership book". Every person whose name has been so entered shall be suspended from competing at meetings held under AAA/UKA laws until the liability causing his/her expulsion shall have been discharged.
        9. That any member found guilty of ungentlemanly/unladylike conduct, bad language or violating the rule in any form, shall be dealt with procedurally by the Committee.
        10. That any member wishing to resign is required to send in, in writing, to the Honorary Secretary, on or before the 1st of the month preceding their month of joining otherwise he/she will be held liable for the ensuing year’s subscription.
        11. That the Club colours shall be claret and blue.
        12. That only first claim members are eligible to compete for an annual club award, etc and that all available signing members must train and attend runs as per fixtures and must be available for 50% of athletic meetings before qualifying for inclusion in Championship or other similar events organised by the Club.
        13. That cross country championships shall be decided on points, eight runs shall be specified, the best six to count, the runner with the least aggregate to be declared the winner.
        14. That all members shall obey the Team Managers/Coaches when training and competing, anyone failing to do so, may not be considered for team selection.
        15. That the Committee have the power to nominate team selectors when required.
        16. That a dispute arising at any time shall be left to the Committee to decide the outcome.
        17. That a SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING may be called at any time by requisition, signed by at least TEN members and giving at least SEVEN days notice and is to state the purpose for which the meeting is to be convened.


 

 

The Constitution is designed to support the implementation of the Club Mission. The Club will actively:

The life of Salford Metropolitan Athletic Club can only be terminated by a majority vote at the Annual General Meeting or an Extraordinary Meeting to which all members will be invited.

Should the Club cease to exist and after discharging all debts and liabilities, all remaining assets shall be given or transferred to other voluntary groups or deserving charitable organisations. The full details of such a transaction will be fully documented and made open and transparent for public accountability.
